Our Mission

2006volunteersSMDare to Be Alive Foundation Inc is a non profit 501(c) (3) dedicated to enriching the lives of organ/ bone marrow transplant recipients and their families by providing financial, mentoring and social supports.

 

Dare to Be Alive Foundation Inc. was founded in 2004 by Deanna as a free over night summer camp for children with organ transplants in the Spring of 2005 D/B/A changed it's focus to providing finanical, mentoring and social supports to transplant recipients. Since 2005 D/B/A has raised funds through grants, general donations and our annual Track Event to assist transplants with the cost of thier medical bills and travel related expenses.

There are currently over 100,000 people waiting to recieve and organ transplants. For more details about becoming an organ donor visit The New England Donor Bank.

Deanna recieved her liver transplant December 12, 1992 and has made it her mission in life to spread the word about organ donation and guide her fellow transplants through this new journey of life. Deanna has been featured in "Womans World Magazine, U.S. Weekly, The Wall Street Journal, The Cape Cod Times and recently as featured runner #13 at the Chicago Marathon, The Chicago Daily Herald and New England Sports Online for promoting organ donation awareness through her Charity running club "Pre Owned Certifited Running Parts" she just completed her 5th marathon!

Warren Wegele
DBA would like to thank all those who made a donation on behalf of Warren Wegele a heart transplant receipent from South Dennis, MA. Warren received his transplant in December of 1999 and passed away on October 21, 2009 at the age of 75.
 
Doug Michela

D/B/A Foundation Inc. has recenlty lost one of it's beloved members Doug Michela. Doug had waited six years to recieve his liver transplant and finally recieved it on Tuesday March 10, 2009 due to medical reasons Doug passed away on Friday March 13th.  He was onced asked if he was afraid to die and his relpy was "no, I've had a rock'n'life".  Doug , you will be missed by all: Rock on Doug Rock On!
